Tammy and I enjoy have fun planning meals that are organic and we eat lots of whole grains and fresh produce. But that's not the whole story. Tammy says she is "not fanatical about food. Because that would backfire. It's good to enjoy life and not be too orthodox about it." I agree, if I fixate too much about NOT eating a food, that's all I think about. So I had a crisp (potato chip in America) or 2 at their "English drinks party", along with Kevin's offer of a Moscow mule.
THE OLDEST MAN IN THE WORLD AGREES. Henry Allington, who lives in the UK, is 113, and when asked by British commentator Dan Carucci his secret recipe, he is said to have answered "cigarettes, whiskey and wild, wild women." At 113 years, perhaps his quip showed a mix of wishful thinking, fuzzy memory or he had his tongue in cheek. It turn out Mr. Allington quit smoking cigars years ago - at around age 109!
BBC reports on June 26 that Henry Allington became the oldest man in the world when Mr. Tanabe of Japan died. Mr. Tanabe also did something unorthodox in health circles who often say dairy is detrimental - he drank a glass a milk a day. The chaperone of Henry Allington says the secret of his longevity is that he is "philosophical and takes things in stride." His life spanned 3 centuries and he has a total of 32 grandchildren (including the great, great-great, and great-great-great). He is known for his humor and spirit.
It seems longevity is about much more than the food - lighten up!
