It’s one world, what happens in Japan floats over to us – our skin, our lungs, our soil. Food, water and health are vulnerable – for everyone on the planet.
Alerts and help about how to protect our health are coming out from the Integrative Nutrition (IIN) community. I am passing on websites and information from experts and physicians, trusted faculty I’ve heard at IIN - Dr. John Douillard, David Wolfe, and Dr. Paul Pritchard. Alumni of IIN – now my colleagues in health coaching – are also supplying resources.
I’ve been reading that some of the natural foods that have become part of my regular healthy diet are also protecting me from absorbing radiation: sea vegetables, such as kelp and chlorella, miso soup, apples, sunflower and flax seeds, medicinal mushrooms such as reishi, antioxidants such as blueberries, and ancient natural cleansing herbs such as ginseng and ashwaganda. As usual, I drink lots of water to help flush toxins. Continue to eat healthy foods you know you tolerate.
I am not speaking for IIN or personally recommending any foods or supplements, but am simply informing you of options and resources.
Please do donate to those hardest hit, and speak up to prevent more crises in the future.
EDUCATE YOURSELF, PROTECT YOURSELF
Dr. John Douillard, a chiropractor, a specialist in ayurvedic natural herbs with lifespa.com
His report explains the threat and he suggests Iodine and sea vegetables.
Dr. Douillard’s article on radiation protection
David Wolfe suggests you eat or supplement with:
kelp, a seaweed that has bio-available iodine; ginseng, ashwaganda, an Indian ayurvedic herb, to help the thyroid (our shield gland) cope with stress; chlorella to neutralize toxins; Zeolites, pull toxicity out of the body and has been used in Asia to detox for 800 years; Fulvic acid; Sea salt as a detox; Salty miso; Reishi mushrooms; Vit C; Magnesium; Selenium – which you can get in Brazil nuts; Coconut cream; and lots of water.

KRISTIN DOMINIGUE, Health coach, IIN graduate, COMPILED THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:
"Regarding the most reliable anti-radiation remedies, I feel chlorella ranks at the top. This is because it actively extracts radiolytic particles from the body. It does this as a result of several actions that all green foods possess, but does it especially well because it is the only food that features its special acid polysaccharides. These are not present in wheat grass or spirulina, for example. In addition to chlorella, I next recommend sea veggies, a moderate daily amount of miso soup (raw miso is superior)." - Paul Pitchford, Integrative Nutrition Faculty http://www.healingwithwholefoods.com/bio.html
"For kelp powder 1-3 grams per day is a maintenance dose. For the other seaweeds, I've read that 3-5 grams daily is a low maintenance dose."

WHAT TO EAT: (compiled by David Miller)
Kelp and Kombu - good sources of iodine. Help to protect the thyroid gland from radioactive iodine 131.
Buckwheat - the glucoside rutin protects against the effects of radiation.
Apples and Raw Sunflower Seeds - contain pectin which binds radioactive residues and removes them from the body.
Lecithin and Bentonite Clay - also bind radioactive residues and removes them from the body.
Flax Seed Oil - contains essential fatty acids that initiate cell renewal after a radiation burn.
Miso - Miso soups are good at leaching radiation from the body.
Panax Ginseng - helps the body resist radioactive influences.
Blueberries/Rasperries - anti-oxidants should be added to the diet to help deal with free radical scavenging.
Nettles - super-nutrient herb that helps to deal with anaemia that can result from radiation exposure.
As with all things, moderation. Don't over do it, especially with the seaweeds which can be extremely cooling for the body, and detrimental for those who have cold conditions. For example an apple a day, a handful of raw sunflower seeds, a tablespoon of flax seed oil, or in capsules (follow dosage suggestions on bottle). Have a bowl of miso soup with kelp or kombu in it.
WHY YOU WANT TO EAT IT:
(Radioactive) Iodine 131 is released during nuclear failures.
Our bodies will take in iodine 131 if we don't have enough iodine
in our diet. A steady supplement of iodine 127 (from seaweed) is the
best protection. If the body has plenty of iodine 127 from seaweed or
potassium iodide (a supplement that you could take if you don't want
to eat seaweed) the radioactive iodine cannot bind to the receptor
sites in the thyroid and begin to damage the cells. Instead, it just passes
quickly through the kidneys without causing much damage.
The real damage is caused when radioactive iodine binds in the thyroid
and starts to decay there impacting the cells and molecules within your
body increasing the chances of major problems, like cancer and non-functioning
of the gland. Thyroid damage is the most-caused damage from radiation
exposure from nuclear plants.
